Five generations link us to the sea and a craft that has grown but has never lost its essence. What started as a small show of courage has, over time, become a family tradition that we keep alive. Each generation has made its own contribution: from the first steps selling fresh fish to skilled artisanal preparation of salted anchovies and marinated anchovies, always combining respect for the legacy passed down to us with a will to innovate.
Today, Nassari reflects this shared history, a bridge between the past and the future with the commitment to keep the authenticity that defines us intact.
Nassari was born from one woman’s courage and entrepreneurial spirit. At a time of economic hardship, she decided to buy fish at Montgat beach – when it was still sold on the sand and not in the harbour – and go door to door, offering it to the neighbours. What might seem normal to us now was a real novelty at that time, as people generally bought directly from the harbour or in the market.
That simple but groundbreaking act was our family’s first link to the sea and was the start of a tradition that we have kept alive over the generations.
At the start of the twentieth century, our great-grandfather Ramón Codina i Bosch shaped what is now known as Peixos Nassari. With vision and hard work, he made the move from selling fish directly to the public to supplying it to markets and small shops, thus expanding the scope of the business. From Montgat to Barcelona, the service grew and became established, laying the foundations of a family tradition linked to the sea that continues up to the present day.
In the mid-twentieth century, taking advantage of the abundant raw ingredients, the family took its first steps in the art of preparing semi-preserved fish: salted anchovies, marinated anchovies in vinegar and sardines. In 1977, after many years of effort and dedication, that dream came true with the birth of the Nassari brand, led by our grandfather Isidre Codina i Sunyol.
This project turned passion for the sea and artisanal craft into a path that we still follow with pride today.
In 1997, our father, Isidre Codina Miralles, founded Siro & Xavi, S.L., which was wholly dedicated to preparing semi-preserved fish, especially salted anchovies and marinated anchovies in vinegar. From the start, our goal has been to offer a product of the highest quality, with a competitive quality–price ratio, while still staying faithful to our essence.
With Nassari as flagship brand, we sought to transmit what truly defines us: history, tradition, quality and dedication. This was also the time to open up to new frontiers and start a process of innovation, combining the artisanal knowledge handed down to us with the latest technologies, to keep our legacy alive and carry it into the future.
With the fifth generation joining, Siro & Xavi, S.L. started a new stage marked by renovation and growth. We are now present in much of Spain, collaborating with supermarket chains and hospitality distributors that trust the quality of our products. According to figures from Spain’s National Statistics Institute, we are now established as a leading company in the preparation of marinated anchovies in vinegar and as a reference point in the production of salted anchovies in salt in Spain.
We are also paving the way towards new horizons, with international exports now representing nearly half of our production. This step forward strengthens our commitment to combining tradition and innovation so we can take the spirit of Nassari beyond our borders.
